Women Making Waves is Boating Industry’s effort to recognize the numerous women in the boating industry who have made large contributions to its success, propelled its growth and led their organizations into the future. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Darlene Briggs Woman of the Year award, which is as appropriate a time as any to give these women the credit they deserve.
Choosing women to highlight was no easy feat; there are so many women doing incredible work that the pages don’t offer enough space to honor them all. However, the women selected in these pages have worked tirelessly in their marine industry niche and have accomplished so much — no matter how long or short their tenure. Women profiled were selected through editorial evaluation by the Boating Industry staff and recommendations from marine industry professionals.
Here they are, the 24 Women Making Waves as selected by Boating Industry.

Brianna, Hello. I have been reading this newsletter for years. Today, I felt inclined to reach out. I loved your article and was so glad to read about our female colleagues in the marine industry. Your play on words in the headline reminded me of this Girl Scout song, which highlight that women have been making WAVES in the industry for years. Enjoy, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfBZ_TE-4XM
Waves and Blues are two songs written for the U.S. Navy that are now sung by Girl Scouts and Sea Scouts.
WAVES, written by Betty St. Clair for the women of the Navy
Waves of the Navy, there's a ship sailing on the bay,
And she won't put into port again until that vict'ry day.
So carry on for that gallant ship, and for every hero brave,
Who will find ashore his man-sized chore was done by a Navy Wave
Thank you so much for sharing this, Shera, and for your kind words on Women Making Waves!
