iLive Truly Wire-free Earbuds

We’ll be the first to admit, headphones (of any kind) weren’t the first thing to come to mind when it comes to products to go with the boating lifestyle. However, after putting more thought to it — and after testing the iLive Truly Wire-free Earbuds — we began to see more and more use.

Sometimes you just don’t want to blast the whole system on the boat, maybe there’s some that would rather relax in the quiet, but others need to jam out. Perhaps a solution to older personal watercraft that are without a sound system of their own.

No matter the application, we found the Truly Wire-free Earbuds from iLive capable of handling it all.

With a “sporty hook” design to wrap around your ears and keep the headphones in place and three different ear tip sizes and three earhook varieties, no matter how much action and moving around we endured, the headphones stayed secure. However, we would’ve liked to see some form of attachable lanyard, for those just-in-case circumstances out on the water.

The earbuds offer Bluetooth 5.0 technology and a 49-foot range, though we found the connectivity to become a little spotty at times, if we weren’t moving the source along with us. However, the majority of the time we experienced very clear quality even with a little distance. On another aspect of distance, the on-ear controls made it very easy to control music or phone calls — with the help of the earbuds’ built-in microphone — while away from the source.

The most crucial component to the iLive earbuds? They are rated IPX7 waterproof, meaning they are ready to face the conditions found in the marine environment from water to sweat and everything else.

On the battery side, at 50% volume, iLive claims the earbuds get between four and five hours of battery life, which we found to spot on during our testing period with the headphones. However, while underway on the water, 50% volume didn’t seem to quite cut it. Although, even at roughly 80% volume we still got about three to four hours out of the headphones.

On top of that, the earbuds come with a charging case with a built-in rechargeable battery, making it very easy to recharge the headphones while on the go and easily doubling your use while out on the water.

All in all, the Truly Wire-free Earbuds from iLive are a great option to have when out on the water and you need to keep the music to yourself, or need something to keep you connected and your hands free.
