Canadian Environment Award presented

KINGSTON, Ontario — Hub Steenbakkers of Collins Bay Marina in Kingston is this year’s recipient of the Natural Marine/Mason’s Chandlery National Environment Award.

The blown glass trophy, in the form of a hollow raindrop that has trapped air from the year 2000, was commissioned and presented by Bill Milne, president of Natural Marine. It was created by Shirley Elford of Clairford Studios in Hamilton, Ontario — the person who blows the annual Canadian Juno Awards.

It was presented at the 26th annual Yachtsman’s Spring Thaw Luncheon, April 29, at the Boulevard Club in Toronto.

“Hub, one of 240 in the world certified as a marina manager by the International Marina Institute, was instrumental in helping get the national Clean Marine Program instituted in hundreds of marinas across Canada,” according to a release.
