USCG Auxiliary warns against out-of-date charts

WASHINGTON – The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary has issued a warning to the boating public, saying it has received several reports that retail chart sellers have been selling out-of-date nautical charts to the boating public.

The USCG Auxiliary said in a statement today that NOAA, the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, is charged with producing nautical charts. Boaters should stop by its Web site – – and check on the latest edition of that chart before purchasing any nautical chart.

Each week, the United States Coast Guard's Navigation Center ( issues nine regional Local Notices to Mariners. These notices detail specific changes in the waters within the region.
