Boat sales continue growth in November

Year-over-year growth in boat sales held steady in November, with the strongest growth in fishing and ski boats, according to the latest Info-Link Bellwether report.

According to Info-Link, the Bellwether report tracks sales of powerboats across the country based on new U.S. boat registrations on a rolling 12-month basis. Bellwether states are geographically dispersed states representing roughly half of the US boat market (varies by market segment and time of year).

The December report showed that boat sales were up about 6 percent for the 12 months ending in November, steady with October’s rate.

The strongest segment, as it has been for most of the year, was ski boats. That market has shown about 12 percent growth over the last 12 months. The sportfish segment has also been strong, with growth of nearly 10 percent for the period.

PWC sales grew about 7 percent over the last 12 months, well off the nearly 20 percent growth seen last year, but still a positive trend.

Overall, outboard sales have been up about 6 percent over the last 12 months, while the sterndrive/jet segment was up very slightly, less than 1 percent over the period.
