Westlawn Institute moves into Maine’s Boat School

EASTPORT, Maine — The Westlawn Institute of Marine Technology has moved its office from Connecticut to a new location in The Boat School in Eastport, Maine, according to a release from both organizations. The institute, which is an affiliate of the American Boat and Yacht Council, says it will maintain the ABYC/Westlawn Research Center at its former location, Mystic Seaport.

“Westlawn Institute is looking forward to exciting new opportunities created by this move, to include working closely with The Boat School, which specializes in teaching boatbuilding, and which is the oldest school of boatbuilding in the United States,” Westlawn Director Dave Gerr said in a release.

The Boat School is an affiliate of Husson University, which has several satellite campuses throughout Maine in addition to its main campus in Bangor. Westlawn, which was founded in 1930, is the only nationally accredited distance-learning school of small-craft design in the United States.
