Marine Mover – NMEA appoints Spitzer technical director

SEVERNA PARK, Md. – The National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) has appointed Steve Spitzer as its technical director, the association said in a statement yesterday.

Spitzer will be responsible for the development, maintenance and support of NMEA Standards, including NMEA 2000, NMEA 0183 and Installation Standards. He will also assist in the development and oversight of marketing programs to ensure maximum exposure of all NMEA Standards in targeted markets, and will implement and direct the development of the Certified Marine Electronics Technician (CMET) and Marine Electronics Installer (MEI) exams to ensure accuracy and currency with modern applications.

“We felt the time was right to create the full-time position of technical director because of the vast amount of technical development and marketing work that is ongoing to fulfill the promise of initiatives such as NMEA 2000, the Installation Standards, and the CMET and MEI programs,” said Beth Kahr, NMEA executive director.

Prior to joining NMEA, Spitzer was owner of Horizon Sales and Marketing, LLC, a sales and marketing company focusing on selling system oriented marine-related technology products and providing strategic marketing and business planning services to emerging companies.
