CHICAGO, May 8, 2007 – DiscoverBoating.com was recently selected as an Official Honoree in the Lifestyle category of the 11th Annual Webby Awards, which are considered to be the “Oscars of the Internet,” Grow Boating officials reported in a release today.
The Webby Awards – which honor excellence on the Internet, including Web sites, interactive advertising, online film and video and mobile Web sites – received a record 8,000 entries from all 50 states and more than 60 countries worldwide. The “Official Honoree” distinction is awarded to submissions that score in the top 15 percent of all work entered into the awards program.
“To receive official recognition from the Webby Awards is a tremendous accomplishment for DiscoverBoating.com,” Carl Blackwell, vice president of Marketing & Communications for Grow Boating Inc. and the National Marine Manufacturers Association said. “This is an extremely prestigious competition, drawing interest from all over the globe. As an Official Honoree in the 2007 competition, DiscoverBoating.com outscored 85 percent of all submissions in its category, something the Web site’s design team should be proud of. This designation is a testament to the evolution of DiscoverBoating.com as the number-one consumer resource for recreational boating information.”
DiscoverBoating.com faced competition in the Lifestyle Category this year, from Web sites like the Food Network, the DIY Network and Reebok’s I Am What I Am campaign. The winner of this year’s Webby Award in the Lifestyle Category was the BP Carbon Footprint Calculator, created by Ogilvy and Mather Chicago.
