Scout awards employee safety with new boat

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. – For the second time in as many years Scout Boats has awarded a new boat to an employee for the overall company exceeding safety standards, the company said in a statement Wednesday. Scout employees have successfully worked without on-the-job accidents for 24 consecutive months.

Michael Williams won a new Scout 145 Sportfish model in a drawing held to reward the employees for outstanding incident-free work over the last 12 months. Scout owner Steve Potts held the drawing for the $14,000 boat.

To create a safer workplace and cut down on rising employee insurance costs, at the beginning of 2005 Scout Boats said if its boatbuilding team could go one full year without any on-the-job accidents, a drawing would be held for one employee to win a new Scout model.

“Our idea was to promote safety to our employees while controlling the rising cost of workers’ compensation insurance as much as possible,” Potts said.
