Blue Mind — Making life better!

If you know much about our company, Correct Craft, you know that we take our organization’s “Why” of “Making Life Better” seriously. Often people view our company through the lens of the philanthropy and global service work that we are known for, but, while we like to make life better in those ways, we also work hard to ensure that everyone we interact with is “better” than before.

Recently, as I read the book “Blue Mind,” this idea of making life better, through what we do as an industry, was significantly re-enforced. In “Blue Mind,” the author Wallace J. Nichols, uses many studies and some anecdotal evidence to demonstrate the substantial benefit people receive from being on, near, in, or under water.

Cutting right to the bottom line – people are notably healthier physically, mentally and emotionally when they are around water. It’s noticeable that people are more creative, inspired, and content there too. Life truly is better on the water and the boating industry facilitates that. We truly make life better.

Nichols shares lessons in neuroscience including both standard and advanced medical research using EEGs, MRIs, and fMRIs to demonstrate the powerful positive impact of water on people. He also uses stories to demonstrate how water not only benefits our overall well-being but also improves performance in all areas of life. The evidence is overwhelming that water positively impacts us in material ways.

As an industry we inherently know this, but we are not as bold about it as we should be. There is no question that boating can be considered expensive, but we are helping people build relationships, develop strong families and be stronger physically, emotionally and mentally. We are helping our customers perform better in life both on and off the water. We, of course, understand that boating costs money but we should be proud (and loud) about the benefits we offer; you can’t put a dollar amount on the value of what we provide.

At Correct Craft we are committed to “Making Life Better” both off and on the water. We will continue to support organizations we can help and take our employees around the world to serve those who need us the most. But equally important are those who we help through our core business of boating.

It is said that the most popular use of boats is fishing. Thoreau said, “Many men go fishing their entire lives without realizing it is not fish they are after.” Boating makes life better.

  1. Many, many years ago there was a common joke about the two best days in a boat owners life, “The day you buy it and the day you sell it!” Well we at Correct Craft stated, there had to be more than “Two Best Days”. An so Correct Craft developed a news letter called InTouch. The name came from a TV show sign off slogan, “We’re in touch, so you be in touch!” This newsletter featured all aspects of “Making Life Better” for the owners of the Nautique product. We created National Boat Owner Reunions, dealers created their local owner reunions and many owners began to see the positive aspects of family boating. This concept is nothing new, but like all concepts it has to be reenforced…
