CITY ISLAND, N.Y. — The Morris Yacht & Beach Club is planning a re-opening ceremony to celebrate the opening of its new clubhouse.
The clubhouse replaces the 150-year-old former clubhouse that burned to the ground five years ago. The rebuilding has been dubbed “Project Phoenix” and is a new 16,000 square-foot building. It will support the club’s membership, which includes sailors and power boaters.
“The new clubhouse is not only energy efficient,” Board Chairman Steve Lott said in a release, “but also situated to provide a panoramic view of Long Island Sound and New York City. The ballroom is the perfect location to host a wedding or other formal event.”
“The members have worked tirelessly together on this project to not only better the club but also to keep an active a boating community on historic City Island,” Commodore Steve Breines said in the release.
The ceremony will take place on May 21, and the public is invited.
