KALISPELL, Mont. — A live, exotic mussel was found on a sailboat hull during an inspection this week at the Dayton Yacht harbor on Flathead Lake in Montana, according to a report in the Daily Inter Lake.
The mussel, a quarter-inch long quagga mussel was found during an inspection by John Wachsmuth, the area Fish Wildlife and Parks Regional Aquatic Invasive Species coordinator, and volunteer Erik Hanson, a certified mussel inspector.
The boat was previously on Lake Mead. It had been decontaminated at Lake Mead and inspected by the Idaho Department of Transportation.
The boat is in dry dock and will not be launched for at least two months, according to the report.
