R.I. trade association to hold “green” roundtable discussion
WARWICK, R.I. – The Rhode Island Marine Trades Association’s Education & Training Committee will be hosting a presentation and discussion by boating industry professionals on green technologies for marine businesses, it reported in a recent statement.
The event will take place on Fri., March 5 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Roger Williams University in Bristol, R.I. Presenting ideas for the development and use of new green technologies will be Nigel Calder, technical director of the European Union’s HYMAR Project (Hybrid MARine); Rich O’Meara of Core Composites in Newport; and John Burman of Kingman Yachting Center on Cape Cod, according to the association.
In addition, an overview of the Rhode Island Marine Trades likely areas of involvement in green technologies will be presented by Fred Hashway, director of Government Affairs at the Rhode Island Economic Development Corp. and representatives of both Rhode Island state government agencies and federal agencies will provide a look at funding sources for making technological change a reality in boating, the association reported.
Lastly, during the IYRS Marine Industry Career Day on Sat., March 6, Calder, also an author of definitive works on mechanical, electrical and engine systems for boats, will be talking to the public about career opportunities that are developing to deal with emerging green marine technologies. Registration to attend the marine industry event on Friday – directed to marine manufacturers, dealers, marina operators and others in both the marine and green technologies industries and limited to a little more than 50 people – must be made by March 1.
