Software manufacturer Northport Systems Inc. has added Facebook social networking capabilities to its Web-based data service, Fugawi X-Traverse, for use with the iNavX real-time marine chartplotting app for iPhone. With the new Facebook application, users can share their iNavX adventures with friends by posting their position, tracks and photo waypoints to their Facebook account with one click.
BoatUS has release its 2010 BoatUS Foundation Life Jacket Loaner Program Wall Calendar, according to a release from the group. The calendar offers 12 months of photos showing kids staying safe on the water by wearing life jackets provided by the foundation’s no-cost Kid’s Life Jacket Loaner Program. The calendar is available in three sizes with pricing starting at $18.95. A portion of each sale goes back to the foundation to support the life jacket program, which lends out over 90,000 life jackets each year at over 500 locations.
National Marina Day is moving to a new day, Saturday, June 12, organizers said. Following comments received from participants and discussions of the NMD committee, the decision was made to move the day closer to the boating season kick-off and away from the worst heat of the summer. Previously, National Marina Day was held the second Saturday of August.
The 2009 Sea-Doo GTX iS watercraft with iControl technology has been named the Grand Award Winner as decided by Popular Science in its annual Best of What’s New, according to a release from Bombardier Recreational Products. The Popular Science award considers all type of products for the award, and BRP’s watercraft was the only marine product in the running.
