In Brief: MarineMax Inc., COMITT, International Marina Institute, Marine Dealer Trader, Manitou Pontoons, Lenny Rudow

MarineMax Inc. has listed 50 boats on eBay as part of its Clear the Decks Clearance Sale, the company reported in a release. Boats for auction include sport cruisers, sport yachts, and sportfishing boats from Sea Ray, Cabo, Hatteras, Luhrs, Bertram, Riva, Carver, Contender, and more. Many of the vessels have no reserve price. All auctions will close on Sept. 24.

Clint Moore, President and CEO of Volvo Penta of the Americas, will be the Oct. 11 luncheon speaker for the Conference on Marine Industry Technical Training (COMITT), the Marine Industry Training and Education Council (MITEC) reported in a release. COMITT will be held as part of the International Boatbuilders Exposition and Conference (IBEX) 2009 pre-conference in Miami Beach. During his talk, Moore will discuss the importance of supporting and taking an active leadership role in the training and education of employees.

The International Marina Institute (IMI) is offering its Intermediate Marina Manager program from Nov. 15–19 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The course is a stepping-stone to IMI’s Advanced Marina Management, scheduled in the U.S. for the first week of December in both 2009 and 2010, or the Marina Operator Course (MOC), scheduled for September 2010. The program covers marina law, contracts, risks and liabilities, staff management, fire- and emergency-response planning, environmental management, and health and safety compliance. Class fees — including four nights’ lodging, opening reception, closing dinner, daily breakfast and lunch, and all course materials — are $2,575 for AMI members and $3,050 for non-members.

In a statement sent to Marine Dealer Trader by Manitou Pontoons, the manufacturer endorsed the MDT program, saying it had outperformed expectations since the company signed up in early spring of 2009 and had given Manitou and its dealers an advantage over the competition.

Long-time industry writer Lenny Rudow has launched a new boating-oriented Web site, www.HookedOnFishingBoats.com. The site features Rudow’s fishing boat blog, fishing boat reviews as well as construction, technical and maintenance articles.
