Florida woman loses propeller lawsuit

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. — A Florida jury has found that Outboard Marine Corp. is not responsible for the severe injuries sustained by a Florida woman in a boating accident 10 years ago, according to a report in the Naples Daily News.

Jurors decided that a 28-horsepower OMC outboard did not contain a defect that was the legal cause of 64-year-old Audrey Decker’s loss, injury or damage, the newspaper reports.

The jury was deadlocked 5-1 for about 4 1/2 hours, but “focused on a caution on Outboard Marine Corp.’s Gale Guard, which said that a propeller guard wasn’t for safety, but to protect a propeller from rocks during shallow-water fishing,” according to the article.

Decker’s lawyer said the verdict would be appealed.
