MerCruiser cuts 120 jobs at Oklahoma plant

STILLWATER, Okla. — The Mercury MerCruiser engine plant in Stillwater shed 120 hourly jobs this week in addition to 15 salaried positions last week, according to a report today in the Oklahoman newspaper.

The hourly workers were told Monday that their jobs were being eliminated, the paper reports, and will be paid through today. The company did not comment on possible severance.

The plant still employs about 200 salaried workers and 200 hourly employees, according to the Oklahoman, although those numbers have been dwindled after three previous rounds of layoffs in the past year, which cut about 270 jobs.

No additional layoffs are planned, spokesman Steve Fleming told the paper, “but Mercury continues to monitor demand and to adjust accordingly.”
