Watercraft of the year named

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – WaterCraft World magazine named the Kawasaki Ultra 250X as its 2007 Watercraft of the Year, the magazine’s parent company, Ehlert Publishing Group, said in a press release May 11. Ehlert also owns Boating Industry magazine.

The award was presented to Kawasaki at the 11th annual Ehlert Powersports Awards, which were held recently in Newport Beach, Calif.

EPG’s Powersports Awards program is a national competition to recognize best of class machines across several powersports markets for innovation, technology and market appeal.

“More than 100 powersports industry executives representing key manufacturers in the marketplace attend the awards to see how their products fare against their competitors,” said Dick Hendricks, Ehlert executive vice president. “Winning the machine of the year award carries a lot of weight in the industry and is a great marketing tool for that product.”

WaterCraft World’s editorial staff spent time testing, comparing and evaluating boats to determine the machine of the year in the personal watercraft market.

“The watercraft of the year award has always been based on three criteria – innovation, market appeal and long-term impact on the industry,” said Jeff Hemmel, WaterCraft World senior editor. “This year, no boat promises to excel at all three better than Kawasaki’s Ultra 250X.”

Other finalists for the machine of the year award in the personal watercraft market were the Yamaha VX110 Deluxe and the Sea-Doo GTX Limited.
