Participation up 53 percent for 2003 National Marina Day
WASHINGTON D.C. – Over 155 marinas and related businesses in 26 states participated in the 2003 National Marina Day, marking a 53-percent increase in participation from the 2002 inaugural observance, according to the 2003 National Marina Day Report, the Marina Operators Association of America (MOAA) reported today.
The 2003 National Marina Day Report details the different events and activities sponsored and promoted by the individual marinas and businesses nationwide. The report was officially released to MOAA members and participating marinas and businesses following the second annual National Marina Day that took place on August 9, the association stated.
In addition to increased industry participation, the report also showed that elected officials from California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington state, Wisconsin and the United States House of Representatives all passed or signed resolutions or proclamations recognizing National Marina Day.
“Since candidates in all levels of government offices will be seeking election or re-election next year, the focus of National Marina Day in 2004 will be to open the doors of the marina industry to local, state and federal officials to educate them on the important role marinas play as gateways to boating and stewards of the environment in cities and towns across America,” said Stephen Wakefield, MOAA manager of state government relations and outreach.
Planning is underway for the 2004 event, and representatives from MOAA have already scheduled August 14 as the date for 2004 National Marina Day. In the upcoming weeks, MOAA also intends to announce the chairperson, planning committee and sponsors for the 2004 National Marina Day celebration, the association reported.
National Marina Day 2003 was sponsored by: ValvTect Petroleum Products; Atlantic Meeco, Inc.; Universal Insurance Services; EZ Dock Inc; Premier Materials Technology, Inc.; EMP Industries, Inc.; Onyx-Mansfield Energy Services; Marinas International; Bellingham Marine Industries, Inc.; Flagship Marinas; BoatU.S.; ShoreMaster/GalvaFoam; Formex Floats; and Boating Industry magazine.
