Boating Industry magazine recognized with prestigious Ozzie award

NEW YORK CITY — Boating Industry magazine, which was purchased and subsequently redesigned by Ehlert Publishing Group, Inc. in October of 2002, won a gold medal Ozzie Award for its new look.

The 17th-annual Ozzie Awards, which are sponsored by Folio: magazine, recognized Boating Industry as the Best Redesign of a business-to-business publication with a circulation under 35,000. The Ozzie Awards recognized magazine design excellence, spanning 14 categories covering consumer, business-to-business, association and custom publishing segments. There were nearly 1,600 entries this year from the U.S., Canada, Australia, China, Finland, Germany and South Africa.

“This prestigious award is consistent with the positive feedback we’ve been receiving on our repositioning of Boating Industry,” said Dick Hendricks, Ehlert Publishing Group’s executive vice president. “The new look, strong editorial focus and the enthusiasm of our staff is creating a real buzz throughout the industry.”

Boating Industry changed its format in early 2003 to focus on the people, the trends, and the analysis of marine industry issues. The redesign, according to Ehlert Publishing Group Creative Director Brett Link, focused its efforts on creating a branding effect that reflects an entertaining read in an exciting format.

“We really wanted to mesh a business flavor with an entertaining look and feel,” Link said. “To make the magazine more graphically pleasing and more inviting to the readership.”

“The Ozzie Award is just another indication that we’re on the right track to making Boating Industry a market leader again,” Hendricks added.

As Boating Industry enters its 75th year of publication, Ehlert will increase the magazine’s frequency to eight issues, which will include two special issues.
