LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — A report released by the Lake Tahoe Regional Planning Agency shows that boating activity on the lake is down during the past two years.
The number of boats using the lake between 2009 and 2010 dropped nearly 8 percent, or by 1,200 vessels. There are no numbers for the 2011 season, though numbers are expected to be flat or down, said Jeff Cowen, Lake Tahoe Regional Planning Agency spokesman, to the Reno Gazette-Journal.
Boat-related pollution is also down in the lake: carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides and particulate matter were reduced between 2009 and 2010, according to agency estimates.
The environmental results of fewer boats could be fodder for more protections in the lake, according to the article.
