Joe Charles honored with 2009 Mel Barr Award
MIAMI, Fla. — During the International Boatbuilders Exhibition and Conference last week, the National Marine Representatives Association honored Joe Charles with the 2009 Mel Barr Award, according to a release from the NMRA.
NMRA President Jeff Gueterman and Matt Gruhn, Boating Industry‘s editor-in-chief, made the presentation.
Charles, president and CEO of Charles Industries, serves on the Foundation Board of the American Boat and Yacht Council. He has also given his time and an accessible sailboat to the Shake-A-Leg Miami Watersports Community Center, as well as raised funds for Broward Community College’s Marine Technology Center of Excellence.
Created in the memory of Mel Barr — an independent marine rep, one of the founders of NMRA and its first president — the award recognizes an individual who has contributed to the improvement of the industry, according to the NMRA.
