Owner of large marine distributor dies
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Joseph E. Lewis Jr., the owner of Jerry’s Marine Service, a marine engine and parts distributor with locations in Florida, South Carolina and New Jersey, passed away Aug. 6, the company said in a statement. He was 74.
Lewis, of Dania Beach, Fla., was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, who was also a marine industry leader and the 1992 recipient of the Darlene Briggs award. He is survived by his sons Joe, Doug, Tim and Jon, as well as five grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at 3 p.m. Monday until services at 6:30 p.m. at Fred Hunters Downtown Funeral Home in Ft. Lauderdale.
The family requests those attending the services dress “Joe Lewis casual” — Hawaiian shirt preferred, socks optional.
