MRAA Educational Foundation presents two technical scholarships

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Two students recently received $3,000 technical scholarships from the MRAA Educational Foundation. Ed Lofgren, MRAA Educational Foundation president, presented the awards to Thomas Dempsey and Nicholas J. Welch during the Marine Dealer Conference & Expo in Las Vegas, according to a release from the foundation.

Dempsey is a student at The Landing School in Arundel, Maine. He earned an associate’s degree in business administration from Dean College and has worked as a deck hand on an educational schooner, the Roseway, and crewed for the Adventuress, a 1924 Fife Ketch out of Newport, R.I.

Welch attends WYOTECH in Daytona, Florida. He has achieved perfect attendance and a 99 percent academic average. He is concentrating on the diesel technology field.
