Hanson Milone Safe Boating Law to Begin April 1

A new law in Massachusetts will begin on Wednesday, April 1st requiring all motorboat operators to complete a boating safety course. The Hanson Milone Safe Boating Law will be implemented in two phases:
- Anyone born after January 1st, 1989, must complete the course by April 1st, 2026
- Anyone born on or before January 1st, 1989, must complete the course by April 1st, 2028
The course covers safety rules, boat operation, emergency procedures and more, according to the Massachusetts Marine Trades Association (MMTA). The focus of this new law is to save lives on the waterways of Massachusetts by helping boaters become more knowledgeable about the rules and regulations on the water. There are several options to obtain the certificate including both in-person and online.
Additional regulations on the new law are forthcoming, according to MMTA. For further information please visit, Massachusetts Boating Law Summary | Mass.gov.
In an effort to help get the word out about the new law, the Massachusetts Marine Trades Association (MMTA) has released a new commercial – Hanson Milone Law Commercial. This commercial is currently being aired on NESN through the Home | The Drift.
