NMMA board hires presidential successor search firm

As the National Marine Manufacturers Association prepares for the September 2019 retirement of President Thom Dammrich, a committee of boat, engine and marine accessory manufacturers, along with Dammrich, recently met in Atlanta, Ga. to interview a number of executive search firms.

The board-based committee issued a request for proposals in the fall and after a comprehensive and careful review selected Spencer Stuart, which boasts 57 offices around the globe and more than 60 years of leadership consulting experience.

Spencer Stuart consultants Leslie Hortum and Jackie Arends will lead the search.

Their first steps will be to continue to familiarize themselves with NMMA and the industry and subsequently create a position description and required competencies.

The official search is expected to commence in January, at which time a position specification document will be posted on NMMA’s website.

“Finding a successor for Thom requires a thorough and calculated process that will allow us to unearth the most ideal, high-caliber candidates—a true leader who will continue to build on the critical momentum and solid foundation NMMA has created for our industry and maintain the roster of top-notch talent we’ve built at the association,” said Syntec Industries’ Bill Watters, who’s chairing the search committee and is a member of the NMMA Executive Committee and NMMA’s immediate past chair.

Watters added: “Spencer Stuart has a reputation for placing the best leaders in the best positions, resulting in organizations that thrive through the kind of high-level executive transition we’re undertaking for NMMA. Their team brings a slate of impressive capabilities and experience to the table and will no doubt deliver the kind of candidates we need.”
