BoatUS president passes away after battle with cancer

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Nancy Michelman, president of BoatUS and publisher of BoatUS Magazine, passed away Friday after a year-long battle with cancer. She was 60 years old.

During her time with BoatUS, Nancy grew membership from 350,000 to 650,000 and took over the role of publisher for the association’s flagship publication. According to BoatUS, under her direction BoatUS Magazine became more dynamic, personal and aspirational.

Michelman was also known for desire to develop personal relationships with members, according to BoatUS. The association said she would often pick up the phone to call members who had sent her letters of disagreement so she could understand their perspective, and it wasn’t unusual for her to call members at random to talk about policy issues or other changes.
