Volunteer PWC patrol proposed for Mavericks

SAN MATEO, Calif. — The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office has presented a proposal to allow volunteers on PWCs to patrol the popular surfing area called Mavericks.

As proposed, the San Mateo County Motorized Personal Watercraft Volunteer Marine Rescue Program would be an extension of the sheriff’s marine unit, according to a report on Fox Reno.

The volunteers would be trained in rescue procedures.

PWC are currently restricted in the area because of a marine sanctuary.

Area surfers say they support the use of PWC to improve safety conditions.
