Laborde adds new facility

CHANNELVIEW, Texas — Louisiana-based Laborde Products, a diesel engine and equipment provider, marked its 10th anniversary with the addition of a new facility in Channelview, Texas, the company recently reported in a statement.

The location, just east of Houston, stocks the parts needed to build and repair engines and offers “swing engines” — engines that have been removed from a boat, rebuilt to factory specifications and swapped into a boat needing an overhaul.

The facility opened in August and was almost immediately faced with Hurricane Ike in September. During the storm, the Channelview location lost electricity and its doors; nevertheless, Laborde remained open for service, the company reported.

“We had a customer who needed equipment immediately, to keep their 24-hour processing center up and running. So we picked up and delivered the gen-sets ourselves,” said Branch Manager Joe Manning.

The Laborde family has been involved in the offshore oil and gas industry for two generations, according to the company. In 1998, Tracy Laborde bought Star Products, which was primarily a distributor of Yanmar engines. Laborde expanded, and the company now carries Mitsubishi, Yanmar and FPT (Fiat Powertrain Technologies) products for the marine and industrial markets. Laborde also builds stand-alone products including diesel pumps and generators under its own brand, Diesel America.

“Providing the best service and products has allowed us to develop strong ties and long-term relationships with our customers,” said Laborde. “We’ve accomplished so much in the past 10 years, we look forward to what we’ll achieve in the next decade.”
