Defender reports record sales

WATERFORD, Conn. – Marine outfitter and boating supplies retailer Defender Industries’ 2007 sales increased 17.1-percent over record 2006 levels, the company reported in a recent statement.

Fourth quarter sales jumped 32.6 percent, and December sales were up 29.4 percent over the same period in 2006. Defender’s total sales have grown 86 percent in the last 5 years, according to the company.

“Sales increased in every month of 2007, with 11 of the 12 months setting new all time sales records,” said Executive Director Al Knupp. “2007 was the 4th consecutive year of record sales, the 6th year in a row of solid growth, and the best in Defender’s 70 year history.”

“Defender’s three primary sales channels all posted gains, led by e-commerce with an increase of 37 percent for the year, which now accounts for a third of total revenues,” said Stephan Lance, Defender VP. “Sales increased by more than 25 percent in over half of Defender’s 20 major product categories.”

Defender also increased staffing levels nearly 10 percent during 2007 to support the increased volume and maintain service levels, and has begun hiring again to support the continued growth.

“With January’s sales up 35 percent, we’re already off to a great start this year. We’re confident 2008 will be another great year for Defender, our staff, our customers, and our suppliers,” Knupp added.
