Former PJ exec restarts consulting firm

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Phil Friedman, former president and CEO of Palmer Johnson Yachts announced the reactivation of his marine technical and business consulting practice, The Port Royal Group, at the Fort Lauderdale boat show Thursday, according to a press release issued yesterday.

“As it did for nearly 25 years, the Port Royal Group (formerly Port Royal Marine, Inc.) is again providing technical and business consulting services to yacht owners, buyers, and sellers worldwide,” said Friedman.

The Port Royal Group already has a number of clients signed up and three megayacht project feasibility studies underway, according to the press release.

According to Friedman, services to be offered include yacht design and construction consulting, new-build planning and management, refit planning and supervision, performance analysis and correction, re-power design and supervision, pre-purchase survey and consulting, warranty intermediation, arbitration and litigation support, and yacht management.

“Heading up a major project, the Port Royal Group single-mindedly and tenaciously represents the buyer’s or owner’s point of view,” said Friedman. “The attainment of our client’s objective is our primary goal. Simply stated, we forge and manage smoothly functioning teams that not only get the job done consistently and cost-effectively, but which also ensure that the client’s vision is realized. As well, our familiarity with, and strategic ties to a core of top quality boatyards enables us to offer our clients the highest quality work on an expedited basis.”

Friedman’s experience in marine-related arbitration and alternative dispute resolution is also moving the reactivated firm into the areas of warranty administration and intermediation, according to the release.

The new main office of the Port Royal Group is located on the 17th street causeway, in Fort Lauderdale’s megayacht sales and brokerage district. Satellite offices will soon be open in Savannah, Ga., and Toronto, Canada.
