Brunswick awards scholarships to children of employees

LAKE FOREST, Ill. — For the 53rd consecutive year, the Brunswick Foundation has awarded 80 scholarships to sons and daughters of Brunswick Corp. employees, the company reported this week. Each will receive a single-year scholarship of $2,500.

The winners span 30 Brunswick locations worldwide and represent the company’s corporate staff as well as all Brunswick business units: Brunswick Boat Group, Brunswick Bowling & Billiards, Life Fitness and Mercury Marine.

“The Brunswick Foundation has an abiding belief in the value of education as well as deep commitment to helping the sons and daughters to achieving their goals,” B. Russell Lockridge, vice president and chief human resources officer for Brunswick, said in the release. “The Brunswick Foundation is proud to have continued such support uninterrupted for more than 50 years.”

Scholarship recipients are selected by an independent committee comprised of education professionals from Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill.; University of Chicago Graduate School of Business; University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Ind.; and Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wis. Scholarships are awarded based on the applicant’s academic record and leadership abilities as demonstrated by extracurricular activities. Financial need is an additional consideration, and scholarships can only be used toward a baccalaureate degree.

The Brunswick Foundation has been awarding scholarships to the children of Brunswick employees since its inception in 1957. In total, the foundation has awarded more than $9 million in scholarships during that time.
