New editorial leader, redesign lined up for Yachting and MotorBoating

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Peter Janssen has been named to the position of editorial director overseeing both Yachting and MotorBoating magazines, announced John Young, president of Time Media’s Marine Group, in a statement today.

Janssen previously served as editor-in-chief and publisher of Motor Boating & Sailing, now MotorBoating, for 18 years and most recently was the editorial director for Hearst Custom Publishing. He has also served in editorial posts at magazines such as Us, Money, Time and Newsweek.

“The addition of Peter underscores our continued commitment to bringing our readers and advertisers the best magazines in the marine industry,” said Young. “Peter’s vast knowledge and experience will serve to broaden the editorial scope of Yachting and MotorBoating to represent the interests of the luxury market as a whole.”

Janssen, who will report directly to Young, will be succeeding Kenny Wooton and Louisa Rudeen, who have helped to position Yachting and MotorBoating among the leaders in their categories, according to the company.

The January issue of Yachting will also mark the beginning of what the company is calling “the most significant investment in the magazine in its nearly 100 years of existence.”

The latest issue, on newsstands December 23, will feature an increased trim size, upgraded cover and paper stock, and a cleaner and brighter interior, stated Time Media. The magazine will now also feature 50 additional editorial pages dedicated to the yachting lifestyle and the boats that make it possible.

Yachting’s new format is receiving tremendous response from the industry as evidenced by January’s 191 ad pages, a 70-percent increase versus 2003’s 112 pages, the company said.

“I couldn’t be more pleased at the effort put forth by the entire Yachting team,” said Young. “The new format will make Yachting as contemporary and sophisticated as the boats we cover, providing advertisers the best marketing platform in the industry to showcase their product.”

Motor Boating, Yachting and Salt Water Sportsman magazines are published by Time4 Media, a subsidiary of Time Inc., which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Time Warner Inc. (NYSE: TWX).
