Miami boat show plans prompt lawsuit

The village of Key Biscayne is opting to sue the city of Miami over its plans for the Miami International Boat Show.

The village council voted this week to sue city over the $16 million plan to rehabilitate the area around the Miami Marine Stadium to host the show in 2016, the Miami Herald reported.

Key Biscayne officials are concerned about the traffic impact of the boat show and other events on the Rickenbacker Causeway. The village will file a suit next week and then immediately stay the proceedings and enter into mediation, village attorney Stephen Helfman told the paper, in order to force a face-to-face meeting with the city.

The city approved the plans earlier this month. The show has to move from its traditional home at the Miami Beach Convention Center to make way for renovations in 2016 and 2017.
