Lake Havasu to offer captains for hire
LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz.– Lake Havasu Marine Association’s Designated Operator program recently announced their Designated Captain safety campaign, where groups wanting to indulge in alcohol now have the option to hire a Coast Guard-licensed captain during the month of July, according to a Lake Havasu release.
Capt. Kenny Samp, owner of Sunset Charters and Tours, will be offering qualified commercial boat captains for hire to operate boaters’ rental or privately owned boats. The release said Samp would screen boaters to insure the right captain is assigned to their boat.
The captain-for-hire option is an extension of last year’s Designated Operator program, which required all operators of rental watercrafts to be sober. If the operator was cited for operating under the influence, deposit for the rental, which can be as much as $1,000, would be forfeited, according to the release.
