Defender Industries reports increased sales for September

WATERFORD, Conn. — Marine outfitter and boating equipment supplier Defender Industries’ September sales rose 12.9 percent and third quarter sales were up 9.2 percent, according to figures released in a recent press release from the company. Sales for the first three quarters of 2010 also increased 18.6 percent over 2009.

“Boaters are spending money on their boats,” said Al Knupp, executive director of Defender Industries, in the release. “They’re just being more careful about how and where they spend it. Thanks to our exceptionally strong financial position, we continue to invest heavily in inventory, systems, and our staff.”

The company reported that by mid October, its 2010 sales surpassed the 12-month total in 2009, making 2010 the seventh consecutive year of record sales and the best in Defender’s 72-year history.

“We’re projecting a more modest increase in the 4th quarter, given that Q4
2009 was up 29.3 percent over the prior year and expect 2010 sales will likely end the year at something close to a 16-percent increase overall,” Knupp added.
