WARREN, R.I. – Organizers of National Marina Day are predicting 2010 will be the biggest year yet for the event, thanks to a new earlier date and new outreach efforts on sites like LinkedIn and Facebook. As of April 20, 22 states had marinas registered at National Marina Day’s Web site, the Association of Marina Industries (AMI) reported in a release.
The event, which in previous years has been held in August, will take place June 12.
“National Marina Day is gaining a lot of momentum this year. Events are spanning all coasts of our country,” Wendy Larimer, AMI’s legislative coordinator, said in the release. “We’re getting registrations from California to New Jersey, Michigan to Texas.”
According to Larimer, phone and email inquiries are coming in regularly from facilities that have never held an event before but would like to participate.
“They view this as putting a positive image on our industry as well as an opportunity to promote their own facility and maybe generate more customers,” Larimer said.
Promotions from other marine groups and event partners have increased over past years, Larimer reports, with many state marine trade associations and clean marina programs getting involved.
“Groups such as American Recreation Coalition, Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation, States Organization for Boating Access, Discover Boating, and more are plugging for National Marina Day,” she said in the release. “Newspapers and local magazines have already been calling to ask for details on the event, and want to find out what marinas are holding events in their areas.”
