Detroit gets new outdoor expo

LIVONIA, Mich. — A new consumer event called the Great Lakes Outdoor Recreation Expo will take place in Detroit on Feb. 18-21, according to a release from organizers.

The Michigan Boating Industries Association, which produces the annual Detroit Boat Show, will hold the event at the Cobo Exhibition and Conference Center during the last four days of the 52nd annual Detroit Boat Show.

“The Great Lakes Outdoor Recreation Expo is a natural extension of our highly successful boat show at Cobo Center,” said MBIA President Van Snider in the release. “In today’s challenging market, it is important to enhance our exhibitors’ value, so we are creating an event with broader interest, which will attract more attendees. This event will expose more individuals and families to diverse outdoor recreational opportunities including boating and the boating lifestyle.”

The event will feature a variety of outdoor activities, according to organizers. Exhibits will include paddle sports (kayaking, canoeing, rafting), hiking, cycling, camping, all-terrain vehicles, power and sailboats, hunting, snow and water-skiing, snowmobiles, bird-watching, fishing, health & fitness, scuba, parks, destinations, resorts, sporting equipment and related equipment and accessories.
