Mercury to move MotorGuide into Attwood plant
FOND DU LAC, Wis. — Mercury Marine plans to close its MotorGuide plant in Tulsa, Okla., and integrate the business into its Attwood Marine Products division in Lowell, Mich., according to a release today from Mercury. The targeted date for completion of the consolidation is Oct. 30.
Not all MotorGuide employees will be making the move, according to Mercury. MotorGuide currently employs 61 people, “some of whom could be offered opportunities to relocate to Lowell,” Mercury said.
The company said the closure is not related to speculation regarding the future of Mercury’s sterndrive operations in Stillwater, Okla., but rather would allow the company to take advantage of the “development and operations synergy” of the larger Lowell plant. Attwood will retain a research-and-development center in the Tulsa area.
“The integration of MotorGuide into Attwood … is consistent with the many cost-cutting measures Mercury has implemented the last 12 months,” according to the company’s release, “and is expected to better position Mercury to emerge from the downturn as a stronger, more profitable company.”
