Newport boat show hands out exhibitor awards

NEWPORT, R.I. – The Newport Exhibition Group – Newport International Boat Show owner and producer – and Edson International bestowed the Steve Collins Award for Best Display at the boat show to Allerion Yachts/Pearson Composites, show organizers said in a statement Friday.

This award is not about the biggest or flashiest display, but much more about how well the display projects the company’s image and the products that it sells, according to the show producer. Consistency in branding, colors and attention to detail were primary considerations in the judging.

Awards were presented at the exhibitor breakfast Sept. 14. Winners were: Allerion Yachts/Pearson Composite for Best In-Water Sail as well as Best in Show; Best In-Water Power went to Kady Krogen; Best Land Display was awarded to Century Boats/Brewer Street Boatworks; and Best Booth Display went to Landrigan Corp.

Edson International sponsors the award and donated a Richard Keene marine print to Allerion Yachts/Pearson Composites. Show producers provide each winner $1,000 toward its 2008 exhibit space.

The award is dedicated to the memory of Steve Collins who was an Edson International employee until his untimely death. Collins was an avid marine display designer and a fine marine art collector, according to the show producer.

“A boat show display represents the opportunity for a company to put their products, and company, in touch with their customers,” said Will Keene, Edson president. “They can be the defining moment for the consumer to understand both the product and the people behind it. A good boat show, which engages the customer, can be the all-important first step in the sales process. Steve Collins recognized this and was instrumental in making sure Edson’s displays were first class in all respects.”
