Seattle Boat Show reports attendance records

SEATTLE – More than 77,000 attendees visited the Seattle Boat Show at Qwest Field Event Center and South Lake Union, Jan. 25 – Feb. 3, setting a new standard for crowds at the show, organizers reported in a release this week.

On Saturday, Jan. 27, a total of 15,508 people attended the indoor portion of the show, breaking a single-day mark for the event since it moved to Qwest Field in 2000. On the water at South Lake Union, a record 5,598 passed through the gates, beating the previous single-day record for that venue as well.

“The show was a tremendous success from every aspect,” said Michael Campbell, president of the Northwest Marine Trade Association – co-organizers of the 10-day show along with the Northwest Yacht Brokers Association. “Both venues enjoyed record attendance through the opening weekend and exhibitors reported strong sales throughout the week.”

Total attendance was high at each venue with 67,000 visitors at Qwest Field Event Center and 21,000 at South Lake Union. Organizers were able determine that overall attendance for the show, after removing counts of visitors who passed through gates at both venues on the same day, was 77, 212.

For the past four years, Campbell’s NMTA – producers of the Seattle Boat Show, and the NYBA – producers of the Lake Union Boats Afloat Show – have offered the public admittance to both events with one ticket and a free shuttle transporting attendees between the two venues. For the first time ever, the January boat show flew under one event banner, the Seattle Boat Show, and was presented as one show in two locations.

“The Seattle Boat Show has entered into a new era,” said Campbell. “Years ago, the two locations were looked at as completely separate shows. This year’s event showcased two world-class venues with more than 1,200 boats. With 77,000 people passing through the gates, we’ve set the bar for attendance as we look ahead to 2008.”
