TVA approves $10-million marina resort
IUKA, Miss. — A proposed $10 million marina resort along the Yellow Creek in northeast Mississippi has cleared reviews by the Tennessee Valley Authority and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, The Associated Press reported in a recent story on the www.clarionledger.com Web site.
The Pickwick Pines Marina resort would be built on Mississippi 25 north of Iuka. Yellow Creek is connected to the Tennessee River and Pickwick Reservoir. The resort will include a 200-plus boat marina and 40-120 rental villa units, built in response to market demand, AP reported.
Stephen Williams, a TVA land-use representative based in Muscle Shoals, Ala., said TVA and the corps found no risk of significant environmental impact or navigation hazards, and had cleared the way for construction. The permit document was delivered to marina officials this week, according to the story.
The plans also call for a restaurant, dry-stack boat storage and a ships store.
Developers say the project would compete strongly against similar, extensive marina/river resort developments across the nearby state line in Hardin County, Tenn., AP reported.
