New boat company begins U.S. production

PLANTATION, Fla. – Access Boats USA has begun manufacturing sailing vessels in the United States to make sailing more accessible to those with disabilities or other special needs, the company said recently.

Previously, the fully accessible sailing vessels were only available through their original builder in Australia. However, as of this summer, the boats are being built in Plantation, Fla.

Access Boats USA said it is providing the boats for community sailing programs, parks, yacht clubs, camps and therapeutic recreation programs. The company says it will also furnish all the information that one would need to start a program in their community.

Ricardo Seidner began Access Boats USA after his son, who had leukemia, got in an Access Dinghy and smiled more than he had in two years, the company said. Seidner was looking for a new business venture and already had an interest in sailing.
