NMMA expands Innovation Awards program
CHICAGO – National Marine Manufacturers Association is expanding its “Innovation Awards” program to honor companies that develop new environmentally friendly products, NMMA reported in a release yesterday.
The first award will be presented at the Marine Aftermarket Accessories Trade Show, being held July 20-22 at the Las Vegas Hilton & Convention Center.
“The recreational boating industry must comply with myriad environmental regulations, and when environmentally-friendly products are introduced, it benefits the entire industry and our customers,” NMMA vice president of Government Relations Monita Fontaine, who suggested the introduction of the award, said. “We want to recognize those companies that are going above and beyond to enhance the boating experience, and we hope this award will spur more environmental innovation.”
In addition to the “Environmental Innovation Award” presented at MAATS, where up to nine new marine accessories will be recognized with Innovation Awards, NMMA will also recognize the best new environmental products submitted for an “Innovation Award” at the International BoatBuilders’ Exhibition and Conference and the Miami International Boat Show.
IBEX will be held Oct. 19-21 at the Miami Beach Convention Center, which will also play host to the Miami Boat Show Feb. 16-20, 2006.
At IBEX, NMMA and Boating Writers International recognize the most innovative new engines, marine equipment and processes in the marine OEM sector, and at the Miami Show, the most innovative boats, consumer electronics and personal gear are honored.
To be considered for the “Environmental Innovation Award”, exhibitors at the three NMMA shows must submit their new product for consideration in the Innovation Award program. Winning products will receive a separate award to honor their achievement, and do not necessarily have to come from the pool of those products that are honored with an “Innovation Award.”
