MOAA honors Pheiffer with Giesler Award
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – John Pheiffer of the Sandusky Bay Development Company in Sandusky, Ohio, was presented with the Bob Giesler Award Saturday at the National Marina & Boatyard Conference and Exposition in Fort Lauderdale, the Marina Operators Association of America reported in a recent statement.
The award was created in memory of MOAA’s first president and is presented annually to recognize a MOAA member who has had a significant impact on the marina industry and association.
Pheiffer, who is the president of Sandusky Bay Development Company, which oversees Battery Park Marina, Battery Park Marine Services, and Cedar Point Yacht Services, and is also a former president of MOAA, was honored for his tireless efforts to promote careers in the marine trades through the association’s Bob Giesler Scholarship Fund.
Each year the fund awards scholarships to the children or employees of MOAA members pursuing higher education aimed at a career in the marine trades. Pheiffer oversaw the creation of this scholarship fund in 2000, and has since been one of its leading supporters and fundraisers, according to MOAA.
“We are truly pleased this year to be presenting this award to John,” said MOAA Executive Director James L. Frye, CMM. “John, like MOAA founder Bob Giesler, has been a tireless supporter and promoter of education. John realizes that education is the key to professionalizing our industry, and has worked hard to promote that concept through the Bob Giesler Scholarship Fund. By presenting John with this award, the association honors his efforts.”
