FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Three years after introducing U.K.-based Peters & May to the U.S. marine market, the company is opening a new Florida location to supplement its existing Chicago office, according to a news release. The new office is located in Fort Lauderdale.
David Ong has come onboard as the Florida office’s general manager from Charleston, S.C., where he worked in shipping. Together with Operations Manager Steve Mandarino, Ong will develop relationships with area builders, brokers, dealers and individuals to assess their shipping needs.
According to the company, factors influencing the selection of Fort Lauderdale included the active Port Everglades and number of established boat building companies in the state of Florida and the Southeast. Also, proximity to the downtown financial and government center as well as the port, airport and multiple services helped determine the location.
The Fort Lauderdale office marks another step in Peters & May’s growth in the U.S. In 2007, Peters & May purchased Air and Ocean Shipping, the largest shipper of boats in the U.S. At first, they used the company as an agent, then opted for full control and purchased the remaining portion of the company last year.
