SAIL launches new magazine

BOSTON – The premiere issue of BoatWorks – For the Hands-On Sailor, a magazine produced by the editors of SAIL for boaters who enjoy working on and maintaining their own vessels, was released yesterday, SAIL said in a recent press release.

The new magazine includes color photography and step-by-step drawings with instructions on ways to upgrade and improve fiberglass boats, SAIL said.

“It’s the This Old House of the boating world,” said Publisher Eric Cressy. “There is a large market of sailors out there who are buying used boats and fixing them up, and the current stable of sailing magazines hasn’t been satisfying their needs.”

“One of the most popular marine magazines in the United Kingdom is Practical Boat Owner, aimed at used boat owners who enjoy working on and maintaining their own boats,” said SAIL editor Peter Nielsen. “The U.S. really has had no equivalent … until now. We’re glad to be able to fill that gap in the market and reach out to all those hands-on, do-it-yourself boaters out there.”

BoatWorks will be published quarterly in 2005.
