Renewed opportunity

matt_new-mug4I love today. I love it because, for me, this is the first day of summer. It’s the Friday before Memorial Day. It’s the first of a number of more-than-two-day weekends I hope to enjoy this summer. It’s the first time I’ll be out on a boat this summer. And it’s a signal to me that it’s time to truly get excited about my top boating priority: muskie fishing.

My enthusiasm for the beginning of fishing season isn’t altogether shocking, but it is a solid reminder for me that our customers, the same people we have always known to love boating, still love to go boating. During the harsh winters we know here in Minneapolis, it’s easy for my fishing passion to go dormant. In the current economic climate, it would be even easier. But I, like so many other boaters, always get a refreshing breath of renewed passion when Memorial Day weekend rolls around.

On this holiday weekend, many of you will be face-to-face with the enthusiasts who have woken from their winter slumbers. Their boating passion is starting anew. This is your opportunity to pour fuel on their fires. This is your opportunity to give them even more incentive to love boating.

Forget how difficult the economic environment has been on our businesses. Your service, your smile, your attitude toward these boaters will have a lasting impact. And even if the customers walking through your front door may not be upgrading to that new boat this year, they certainly still want the most out of their boating lifestyle. And that leaves you – and you alone – in the driver’s seat when it comes to delivering that one-of-a-kind experience that will contribute to their passion.

Here’s to the start of a great boating season …

  1. Right on Matt! This is inline with my post this week that at the end of the day, regardless of the weather, the economy, or your feelings about the guy that cut you off in traffic, your attitude towards your customer is everything.
