NMEA Conference to hold presentation on broadband proposal

SEVERNA PARK, Md. – The 2011 National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) Conference and Expo will hold a presentation and discussion to allow attendees to find out more about a controversial broadband proposal, and to talk with a representative of the company, LightSquared Subsidiary LLC.

The new proposal would allow a wireless broadband service to operate in the radio spectrum immediately adjacent to Global Navigation Satellite Services (GNSS), and according to NMEA, could lead to out-of-band emissions that would interfere with, or drown out completely, the neighboring frequencies.

Geoff Stearn of Lightsquared will give a presentation on Wednesday, Sept. 28, at 9 a.m., and will be available following the presentation at the NMEA Conference and Expo for small, short group discussions and a brief question-and-answer period.
