Boat fuel consumption measurements standard published

CHICAGO — The National Marine Manufacturers Association and a team of U.S. members from American Boat and Yacht Council, Mercury Marine and Brunswick, were recently part of the International Council of Marine Industry Associations’ Technical Committee in charge of helping to create an official international Boat Fuel Consumption Measurement Standard.

According to the NMMA, the standard is a voluntary one for use by members of Marine Industry Associations the world over, to meet the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The Boat Fuel Consumption Measurement Standard will help boat builders provide information for consumers on using their boats in the most fuel efficient way.

The standard was developed by taking a series of measurements on a variety of boats, from idle to full speed, to determine fuel consumption across the full range of the boats’ expected operation.

Boat builders are encouraged to review and use the standard. NMMA is a member of ICOMIA and as a result, all NMMA members receive the Standard free of charge from the ICOMIA Online Library.
